Mind, body and spirit
I have recently finished adding a few words to our Year 13 leavers’ letters, and I am amazed by the range and depth of talent that they have exhibited during their time at LGS and as they have flourished in the Sixth Form.
Such talent and creativity were very evident in the Art and Design Technology Exhibition last Friday, both in our pupils’ imaginative ideas and in their skilful and colourful execution – in wood, metal, oils, watercolours, sketching and ceramics. I am also thoroughly looking forward to our 40th Anniversary Gala Concert on Sunday, followed by our Year 9 Maverick Thinkers competition on Monday evening.
Three of our Year 12 pupils have this week enjoyed conspicuous recognition of their inventiveness. Their ‘Agripod’ has made them winners of ‘Best Innovation’ in the national Teen Tech competition as well as winners of Siemens Digital Decarbonisation Award, and Runners-up in the Senior Engineer Award at the Big Bang Science Fair in Birmingham.
We celebrate all of these achievements and endeavours as examples of what our pupils can do when provided with the inspiration, the passion and the opportunity. Yes, they stem from intellect and rational thought, but they also derive from imaginations fired up by a desire to create something extraordinary, something of beauty which speaks to our souls. Mind, body and spirit.
Best wishes,
John Watson
