Heads of School 2024-2025

Gabriel & Nandini

Gabriel

What A levels are you studying?

I am studying Latin, Ancient Greek, Classical Civilisation and French. I have always loved linguistics (as you can probably tell!) and I find it fascinating to pick apart ancient literature in its original language.

What do you like doing outside of your studies?

I love drama, and a big highlight of my year is always the school production here at LGS. It's always a pleasure to watch the show come together whilst working with and getting to know pupils from different age groups. There is a wide variety of co-curricular activities to make the most of at LGS: I enjoy singing in the choir and playing rugby. I also love reading, running, and going to the gym.

What do you most appreciate about Leicester Grammar School?

The plethora of different subjects and activities LGS offers; there are so many different things to do and there is something for everyone. LGS provides a wide range of exciting opportunities, ranging from school trips to various competitions for every subject. I love the incredible facilities we are privileged enough to have access to, and the close-knit community fostered here. I am also very grateful for the teaching staff, who are so passionate and make the school such a great learning environment. They have even put up with me for 6 years - what a commitment!

How would you like to make our community even better for our pupils next year?

I'm looking forward to facilitating communication between the pupil body and the Senior Leadership Team. I would like more pupils to contribute ideas, which would give the pupils an even greater voice. I also think it would be great to encourage more conversation between older and younger pupils, via existing co-curricular activities or school trips. For example, it would be great to have something like a language clinic with both older and younger pupils, where the older pupils could practise their speaking & listening skills, and the younger pupils could learn from them.

What you are planning to do when you leave LGS?

I'm not entirely sure! I would really like to study Classics at university; it's such a fascinating subject that combines many different disciplines such as linguistics, essay-writing and literary analysis, and it has been a passion of mine since year 7. After that, I will see where it takes me in life!

What A levels are you studying?

I am studying Art, Maths and Philosophy. I love the way in which the three subjects unexpectedly relate to each other in the most fascinating ways, and at the same time, offer me a broad range of learning.

What do you like doing outside of your studies?

Aside from academics, I love to immerse myself in music, so I’m in a number of ensembles, including First Orchestra and Senior Choir. I have been playing the violin for 11 years now, and since my first lesson, my love for music has only grown by the day! I’ve since learnt piano and the drums, but my favourite musical pastime is definitely singing, and I’ve recently completed my ABRSM diploma in singing for musical theatre. It’s also impossible for me to go a day without doing some form of art, whether it’s painting or drawing; so it's definitely safe to say that I like to embrace a more creative side outside of my studies

What do you most appreciate about Leicester Grammar School?

There is so much that I appreciate about LGS- but I particularly appreciate the opportunities that it has given me, and that are available to every pupil in the school. There is a variety of co-curricular activities, so everyone can find their hidden talent, or passion that can change their lives; for me, this was 100% the music department, which has allowed me to grow in both confidence and ability that also benefits my lessons. Alongside all of this, I appreciate the pure passion that all the teachers have for their subjects, which encourages us as pupils to become equally interested in our learning! One of my favourite things about LGS is the fact that the school community is one of positivity and warmth, and the sense of unity that comes from being a part of it.

How would you like to make our community even better for our pupils next year?

We are very lucky to have such a wide range of co-curricular opportunities, including various sports, music, STEM activities, debate clubs, drama, and many more. I would like to encourage pupils to embrace whatever interests or curiosities they have and use the opportunities given by the school to form lasting connections and develop key skills (both practical and social). I believe that encouraging pupils to be a part of a club with others from a range of year groups is extremely important for the community, as it allows younger pupils to learn from those higher up in the school, and for the older pupils to have the chance to become role models. Another aspect of the community that I would love to see flourish even more is the appreciation of our school’s diversity, and inclusion; we can already see the amazing impact that the work of Embrace is having on the school, and I would like to help this grow through educating about the range of cultures within our school, and by expanding Culture Day. I believe that this can result in a deeper awareness and understanding within the school and its pupils, that will help to create an even more supportive and bright community.

What you are planning to do when you leave LGS?

I am planning on studying Architecture at university after leaving LGS, a field that I have always had a deep appreciation for. I love the way that it perfectly combines creativity and logic, and treats buildings as works of art in their own right. As part of my personal study for art, I am looking into nature’s influence on architecture, and this is something I would like to carry forward; constructing beautifully modern buildings that tie into nature through sustainability.
