Leicester Grammar School is delighted to receive these two prestigious awards, as they reflect the inspiration, ambition and care which underpin the happiness and success of our community.
Our A-level results this year placed us as the top co-educational independent school in the whole of the Midlands; almost 90% of pupils met offers for their first choice of university, with nine proceeding to Oxford or Cambridge. 16 pupils achieved ten or more top [9] grades at GCSE, with a remarkable six winning national Arkwright engineering scholarships for their Sixth Form studies. Amongst other accolades, a group of three Sixth Formers came runners-up in the global Earth Prize, from 1,150 schools in 116 countries, winning $25,000 to invest in an environmental sustainability project for farmers in developing countries.
LGS is a happy, vibrant and diverse community in which pupils thrive on mutually supportive relationships and amazing opportunities. Our pupils become self-starters who achieve outstanding outcomes as a result of the culture of care which we create. We have recently completely remodelled our medical suite and well-being facilities to support increased provision for pastoral care as part of our ongoing commitment to fostering positive mental and physical well-being for all members of our school community. Our pupils emerge as generous and naturally confident young adults, keen to make a lasting difference to the world in which they live.
Headmaster, John Watson, commented:
There is a palpable sense of bright children all wanting to give of their best and be their best, supported by teachers who know what makes them tick as human beings - it's a real 'can-do' approach, even when things don't always go to plan! We love curious pupils who ask us challenging questions!
The deadline for January's entrance examination for Years 6 - 10 is Monday 4 December, and interviews for Sixth Form applicants will begin in the new year. Please visit: https://www.lgs-senior.org.uk/admissions
